Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled Review

BlackSigilBladeoftheExiled.jpg

Story
Bel Lenora is a magical kingdom where everyone can use magic. A long time ago, a man who could not use magic named Vai entered Bel Lenora and brought about a great tragedy. At high cost to the kingdom, Vai was banished by one of the kingdom's Generals. Fifteen years after that event, a young man named Kairu ventures into Bel Lenora, and it is found that he is also unable to use magic.

Gameplay
Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled is fully compatible with the DS touch screen and stylus. Players can choose to play the game completely using simple button, the stylus, or a combination of both. The game follows the traditional console RPG format dividing the game into different segments of exploration, combat, and plot scenes. The game allows for traditional data recording via "save points" as well as a quick-save feature which can be used at any time (but isn't as reliable as a "real save").An interview with Graffiti at E3 2009 confirmed that the game has seven endings along with lots of sidequests and NPC dialogue that changes each time the lead character changes.

Combat

The game is a console styled RPG, and features the traditional turn-based combat style that usually accompanies the genre. Where Black Sigil differs from most RPGs is its attempts to add a tactical aspect which requires the player to observe the positions of his or her characters and also the positions of the enemies.Seven of the eight characters have a predetermined skill-set, and the eighth can be customized. Enemies are not visible during exploration as the game uses the traditional random encounter format.

Geography

The world of Black Sigil is quite large and contains anywhere from 50-60 locations. Over 1000 maps were made when the game was in production. Players can travel on the world map in various vehicles that are found throughout the game.

Characters

Kairu

The game's protagonist is a calm and collected young swordsman in the service of Duke Averay, the man who defeated the "magicless" General Vai long before the events of the game. A war-orphan taken in by the duke, but is unable to use magic which causes the people of Bel Lenora to mock him and view him as a threat. He only seems to open up to his younger sister, Aurora.
By orders of the King, Kairu is eventually exiled into the cave Vai was banished to after his defeat. The duke hands him the Averay blade before sealing the cave.
Kairu's weapon is the sword, and his element is Ice.

Aurora

Daughter of Duke Averay; an assertive, and strong-willed, sorceress. Aurora usually looks out for her adopted brother, Kairu, even going as far as using her magic on those who insult him in her presence. When he is banished from Bel Lenora, she follows him into exile.
Aurora's weapon is the whip, and her magic element is Fire.

Nephi

A smooth-tongued stranger Kairu and Aurora run into at the beginning of their journey through Artania. He appears interested in Averay's sword that Kairu wields. Nephi helps the pair numerous times, and seems to especially care for Aurora, but he vanishes mysteriously over and over again.
Nephi uses throwing weapons such as knives, darts and balls. His element is Dark.

Isa

A white-haired woman who wields magic in the world of Artania, and currently works as a commander in the Genufan army. The Sammarkans refer to her as the "witch" but repeatedly fail to capture her. Isa is quiet and aloof, but becomes especially sensitive whenever the subject of her home village is brought up.
Isa wields dual scimitars. Her magic element is Wind, and she has command over some powerful healing spells.

Vai

The only other person known in Bel Lenora to have no ability to use magic at all. 15 years before the beginning of the game, he betrayed Bel Lenora and led an army of demons and their worshippers against the kingdom. He is a playable character as a member of the party.
Vai's weapon is the rapier; his element is Holy.

Rogurd

A hearty treasure hunter who claims to be the best at the trade. He is originally an upperclassman from the town of Tradefair. Rogurd ventures the land in search of a treasure he refers to as "IT". He has a rival named Gavin, who is also something of a friend, and the two repeatedly bump into each other in their hunt for "IT". Rogurd helps Kairu's group a couple of times before joining them.
Rogurd uses the axe as his weapon of choice. His element is Earth.

Nym

A young Ashen Eye with the special ability to use summons in battles.
Nym's weapon is the javelin, and he can use special magic in battle.

Doll

Another character can be seen in the party during the official trailer. He appears to be completely purple, and is supposed to be open to wide customization. Doll's skill set is determined by what he has equipped.

Away: Shuffle Dungeon Review

Awaysd.jpg

Story
The story involves a curse called "Away", which causes a person to mysteriously vanish from a village each year.

Gameplay

The main gameplay focus of Away is its "shuffle dungeons", where both DS screens show a part of the dungeon for the player to explore in. When a player enters a dungeon, their given a few seconds to move Sword around both screens before a part of the dungeon starts to shift and reveal a different area for the player to battle monsters and open treasure chests. If a player dwells too much time in one of the dungeon's areas, they'll get caught in the shuffle and will lose a portion of their HP and start over in the dungeon before the previous one where you got shifted. After reaching the final floor of a dungeon, you'll either face a boss or collect gold or items from treasure chests and access a save point. Once you exit through the way you came from the dungeon, you'll be able to use that dungeon again to raise your stats and open chests.

Avalon Code Review

Avalon Code.jpg

Story

The main character (a young boy whose default name is Yumil, or a young girl whose default name is Tia) has been having nightmares about the end of the world. They are told that they have been chosen by the powers-that-be; not to save the world: their job is to use a magic tome called the Book of Prophecy to record what is worth saving, so that information may be used to create the next world.
The protagonist finds and befriends four helpful Spirits taking residence inside the Book. Throughout the journey, they learn about a plot to hasten the end of the world, as well as what happened to the Book's last Chosen One.

Gameplay

In addition, everything that can be scanned has a Code - which is like DNA, but simpler. Its Code is in turn made up of many Codes, which are pieces of different shapes and sizes that fit into the object's grid somewhat like fitting pentominoes into a box. Creating different combinations of Codes, by adding and removing them, changes the object's title and sometimes has a major effect on the object. Changing titles to remove 'defective' Codes, as well as creating 'new' items, is a facet of gameplay used in many sidequests and occasionally within the story.
An example of Code manipulation is as follows: at one point in the adventure the player encounters a writer who has an illness, rendering him very weak. Once he is Code Scanned, the part of his code causing his ill health can be seen and removed, causing the writer's 'miraculous' recovery. The player can then attach the illness to an enemy's code to make every enemy of that particular species, everywhere in the world, weaker by a certain amount. It would also work with a weapon, such as a sword that, when used, poisons any enemy it touches.

Music
if a game this one is engrossed in his music, his music sounds like playing rose online if I'm not mistaken

Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars: The Director's Cut Review

 61WBv8RgZAL.jpg

Story

The game opens in Paris with journalist Nicole Collard receiving a request to go to Palais Royale to interview a famous media tycoon and potential candidate for President of France, Pierre Carchon, also famous for his lecherous behaviour. A mime hangs around outside Carchon's home, whom Nico ignores and carries on inside the house. She meets Carchon's wife, Imelda, and Carchon reveals he knew Nico's father very well, Thierry Collard. Soon, there is a noise in the drawing room, Carchon investigates only to be shot. Nico rushes to the scene to see the mime over Pierre's corpse. She is knocked to the ground before she can do anything and wakes up to find Imelda going to call the police.
After persuading her that she wants to find the truth and help, Imelda allows Nico to access Carchon's room, which contains an elephant carving exactly the same as that of Nico's father and a stone cylinder, which contains a hidden code of letters. On Carchon's corpse, Nico discovers a ticket stamped "Bateaux de la Conciergerie" and goes to investigate the dock. By using the letters on the cylinder, she discovers a secret office area where Carchon and many others met for business. After writing her story up and publishing it, her editor tells her to drop the story at which Nico becomes angry. However, she receives a mysterious phone call from a man called Plantard who tells her he needs to speak to her about her story.

Gameplay

The game is a traditional point-and-click adventure, where the player has to logically come up with answers and solutions to riddles and problems that he or she encounters during the course of the game.
Audio features of the game include recorded Foley and sound effects, orchestral music and recorded voices of voice actors. The game graphics are animated in a style which resembles classic animated films. The game was directed by Charles Cecil and the original score was composed by Barrington Pheloung.
The game features a cast of voice actors led by Rolf Saxon as George Stobbart.

Atelier Annie: Alchemists of Sera Island

Atelier Annie.jpg

Story

Annie was just a simple girl who lived in a town located within the mainland. However, all she did was sleep and fantasize about becoming rich and famous someday by marrying up. Worried about their daughter, her parents consulted Annie's grandfather, a great alchemist, for advice on what to do. After a moment of thought, he decides to send her to Sera Island to take part in a large resort project in order to teach her to overcome her laziness. Thus, in the middle of the night, his homunculi steal Annie away to Sera Island; across land, across river, and across sea.
She gets a rude awakening in the form of a fierce whack to the head and Annie wakes up to meet Pepe, a fairy who gives her a letter from her grandfather and tells her that he'll be the one to instruct her in alchemy, which will be used to facilitate the resort's construction. A disoriented and confused Annie refuses his request until a mysterious man bursts into the room and drags Annie away to a ceremony celebrating the resort project. Later along in the ceremony, the man introduces himself as Hans, the resort supervisor and in extension, Annie's superior, and she also discovers that one of the possible rewards to winning the competition will be marriage to the Prince of Orde along with the title of Meister. True to her dream of marrying up, Annie resolves to become a great alchemist and win the competition.

Gameplay

The gameplay is similar to both a strategy RPG and a simulator game. As the game focuses much more heavily on quests and character interaction rather than battling, the battle system is simplistic at best with basic turn-based combat featuring front-and-back positions that not only affect offense and defense, but changes a character's special ability - usually from offensive to supportive, respectively. Enemies have elements assigned to them which can be exploited using synthesized colored weapons, but it is not at all necessary. Battles occur at random as Annie wanders around gathering materials outside town. Materials at first are basic, with no hidden quality, but in later areas, a player can get variations of the same material possessing, for example, a 'big' trait or a 'blue' trait among many other possibilities. These become significant as the latter part of the game tends to home in on what specific qualities are required in a synthesized item.
Synthesis itself is rather simple. Annie chooses items to mix and out comes a new creation. However, Annie starts off with a low Alchemy level and can actually mess up on synthesizing at times until she starts to synthesize more and become better. As the game progresses, Annie learns how to dye items and give them a certain trait, such as fire affinity in the form of being dyed red. These can be used to easier kill certain enemies or boost one's defense against an element. She also learns how to assign other traits to items, which will prove useful in the Alchemy contest along with the quests she takes up.

Music
not bad for music of this game is very fun and entertaining.
